A man who stole a wallet from an unsuspecting reveller has been jailed.

Robert Rafael (16/07/1973), of Prescot Road, Fairfield, Merseyside, admitted theft and was sentenced to six months in prison when he appeared at Manchester Crown Court on Monday 2 February 2015. The victim in this case, a 56-year-old man, was at the Paramount Bar on the evening of Thursday 17 December 2013, when he placed his coat on the back of his chair. After he had left the bar he noticed his wallet, which was handed into Oxford Road train station minus some cash later in the evening, missing from his pocket. CCTV was checked and showed Rafael sit at a table behind the victim’s before reaching into his coat and taking his wallet. Rafael was recognised due to a similar offence he had committed previously at another bar in the city. Sergeant Adam Cronshaw, said: “Robert Rafael has committed numerous similar offences in bars and restaurants all over the country, often travelling to various locations with the sole intention of committing crime. “This case demonstrates that sadly there are people like Rafael who don’t give a second thought to swooping in and taking what does not belong to them and I would just like to use this as an opportunity to remind people of the importance of being aware of their surroundings and keeping personal items, such as wallets and phones, on securely them at all times.” Story courtesy of Greater Manchester Police
