Need an extra pair of hands? Want to make a positive difference to people in your local community? Get involved with Diageo Learning for Life and host a student on a work placement in your business

Aimed at supporting young unemployed adults into work into the bartending and hospitality industries, the Diageo, Learning for Life: Hospitality & Bartending course delivers everything participants need for a career in any front of house bar, restaurant or hospitality role. No previous experience is required to apply, just a can-do attitude, passion and commitment to learn. Since it was launched in Scotland last year, the six week programme, has trained more than 360 young adults aged 18-28 with almost three quarters of all graduates from the course landing jobs on graduation.

Run in partnership with The Springboard Charity, that supports people into sustainable employment within the hospitality industry, participants gain a number of national industry-recognised qualifications including BIIAB Certificate for Personal Licence Holders and BIIAB Level 2 Food Safety in Catering, and undertake master classes in cocktails, wine and spirits service. The course consists of four weeks of practical classroom training followed by two weeks work experience in a local business.

Diageo Learning for Life receives backing from many pubs, bars, clubs, restaurants and hotels which provide work placements for the students. This practical on-the-job training is much valued by the students and supports the placement partners in finding fresh, high quality talent for their businesses. As the students are also receiving job seekers allowance whilst participating in the course, there is no cost to the business hosting the placement.

We’re currently looking for placement providers in the Runcorn, Liverpool and Chester areas, so please contact susanw@springboarduk.org.uk if you’d like to get involved or find out more. We also run courses regularly across Scotland (including Dundee, Inverness, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Perth, Aberdeen, Oban and Ayrshire) so please contact learningforlifediageoscotland@diageo.com if you’d like to get involved in one of these locations.
