Relaxation of licensing hours to serve alcohol during the FIFA World Cup 2014

The Home Office has today launched a two week consultation on the proposal to relax licensing hours for the England matches in this year’s World Cup. The consultation will run from today until 23:45 on 26 March.

They are consulting on whether there should be a national relaxation of licensing or whether this should be a local decision using the existing system of Temporary Event Notices. The relaxation would apply to all England matches with a scheduled kick off time of 8pm or later (UK time). This would relate to the sale of alcohol for consumption on the premises only and the provision of late-night refreshment in on-trade licensed premises, it would not cover regulated entertainment.

They are keen to hear from everyone who would be affected by a national relaxation of licensing hours. Please respond to the online consultation at www.gov.uk/government/consultations/world-cup-licensing-hours
